While there were many exciting things that happened at Bentley last year (check out our Points of Pride magazine!), we want to let you know about a few new things that are changing at Bentley:
Thanks to support from the United Way of Genesee County and the Flint and Genesee Chamber of Commerce, we are proud to announce that we are starting a YouthQuest after-school enrichment program for our K-8 students.
This after-school program, housed at Barhitte Elementary, will allow students to engage in exciting, hands-on activities that support their physical, academic, and social health. For only $35/week, parents can enroll their student(s) in a 3-hour program that will also provide a snack, dinner, and transportation to all homes in district boundaries.
For more information, contact your school office. Registration forms are available online. There will be onsite registration at Barhitte Elementary on August 21st from noon to 6:00 pm. We look forward to sharing this amazing opportunity with you!
Our high school will soon be a host site to TeenQuest, also offered by the Flint and Genesee Chamber of Commerce. It is a program for students 14-19 years old in grades 9-12 who are interested in getting a job. This five-week after school program is conducted as a sheltered workshop and designed to give students a basic understanding of skills that are required within the workforce.
For more information, contact the high school office.
The Board of Education is excited to be offering a new option to our young students: a developmental kindergarten. Available to students who may need another year of development before entering kindergarten, we will be offering a nature-based curriculum, meaning the students will be learning outside as often as possible. Work has begun to prepare the Barhitte campus to be an outdoor learning center.
For more information, see the brochure or contact the Barhitte office.
Half-Day PD (No late start.)
This year, staff development will occur in occasional half-day sessions, rather than during late-start, which we had done on Wednesdays in the past. Students will report to school in the morning for a half day, and staff members will stay for professional development in the afternoon. Now staff will be able to work together in longer blocks of time, accomplish more, and be able to work with experts to improve Bentley.
You can access the school calendar on our website. Half days are typically once a month, depending on holidays and other timely events.
Senior Parking & Parking Dues
The high school will be collecting the $25 parking fee for all student drivers. Seniors will also have the chance to choose their parking spot and paint it. For more information, see the message from Mr. Dickerson.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school office. We look forward to sharing these opportunities with our Bentley family during the 17-18 school year!
